What is spirituality?

Recently, a friend asked me what is spirituality. Simply put, spirituality is a way or means to grow closer to God. Jim Martin, S.J. in his recent book The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything says that spirituality is like a bridge. It helps you get from one place to another.
